Alexander Isak is in the crosshairs of the Gunners

Arsenal is reportedly looking at alternatives to Dusan Vlahovic, with Alexander Isak a potential option for the Gunners in the final week of the transfer window. The Fiorentina striker was Arsenal’s first choice. But now it looks like Juventus has overtaken the Gunners in signing him. So, now the north London side is keeping tabs on the Swedish international.

Isak has been linked with a move to Arsenal for some time. However, with Vlahovic unlikely to move to the Premier League so late in the window, Mikel Arteta’s side could now move for the Real Sociedad star.

Arsenal was rumoured with a move for Isak in the summer following the attacker’s impressive displays for Sweden in Euro 2020, and the Gunners could well make a late move for the 22-year-old.

Isak’s connection with Martin Odegaard will also be vital in getting an agreement. Both used to play together in Spain with Real Sociedad.

He started his professional career with AIK in 2016. Isak represented Borussia Dortmund and Willem II before signing with Real Sociedad in 2019. A full Swedish international since 2017, he has won more than 30 caps for his country and represented the side at UEFA Euro 2020. He is the youngest ever goalscorer for both AIK and the Sweden national team.

On January 23 2017, Isak signed for Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund on a long-term contract, lasting until the summer of 2022. The transfer fee was undisclosed, but reports suggested that it was set at 9 million euros, which would be the highest transfer fee ever paid for an Allsvenskan player. Isak made his first appearance for the club in a 3–0 cup win over Sportfreunde Lotte on March 14 2017.

He scored his first competitive goal for Dortmund in a 2017–18 DFB-Pokal second-round win against FC Magdeburg on October 24 2017, scoring the second goal in a 5–0 win.

After having a loan spell with Willem II, Isak signed a five-year deal with Real Sociedad. Dortmund kept a clause stating that the German club could have a buyback if necessary in that deal. But around six months ago, that clause was removed by Dortmund.

Arsenal was ready to pay the asking price for Dusan Vlahovic. But since the deal is collapsed, they will surely go for another striker. The Real Sociedad frontman has an 80 million euro release clause, and the Gunners would be ready to pay the release clause.

There have been rumours that Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta was seen with Stan Kroenke in America to discuss about signing a top-class forward before the winter transfer window closes.
